Are you tired, young man, do you work ‘til your bones are sore? Spend your days in the fields and the nights awake, worrying of war? While the insecure fears of a small man take hold and the ice is growing thin. We’ll build bridges, not walls, and draw love from the wreckage we’re in. From the humble beginnings of millions, a toil untold. Fought for nothing but name and celebrity, gilded in gold. Never learning the meaning of truth or the value of human empathy. Legal tender proposed as a stand-in for integrity. Take a long walk thro’ the valley. Breathe in the air so deep. Fill up your lungs, then slowly exhale. Fill the oceans with plastic and burn all the gas you can use. Hell, you’ve done all the living you can. What’s it matter to you? While the future erodes, it’s no trouble to you as you slowly drift to sleep. And your grandsons will find themselves drowning in waters too deep. Take a long walk thro’ the valley. Breathe in the air so deep. Fill up your lungs, then slowly exhale.

I’m the kind of guy who forgets your name and your birthday. But I don’t want to live in regret so I’ll drown in your mercy. What the hell am I gonna say to keep this alive? Pull over to the side of the road and don’t tell me you’re wasted. Eventually it’s bound to come out and we’ll both need to face it. What the hell am I gonna do to keep you alive? Turn the lights off, open all the doors, and let me in. When the madness starts, think of me. We never have to wait very long for our patience to taper. And everyone we claimed to admire, they’re just figures on paper. All we ever wanted was love; it keeps us alive. No matter what the worst ones will do, we’ll just stand with our heads bowed. They know not what they ask us to do with our faces and hands down. All they ever wanted from you was to keep them alive. Turn the lights off, open all the doors, and let me in. When the madness starts, think of me.

And the rains fall down but I couldn’t possibly care. Because the hunt is down now and the wind no longer whips through my hair. All I ever wanted was to keep you warm but the cover was so cold. The February breeze cuts you to your knees and you stop to stare. ‘Til the coffee’s poured and you’re feeling warm.

Awake now; my nerves are calming down and I want to hold you o so close. Just say how to keep you safe and sound and I’ll make a home for you; our sweet home. So just hold on for forever, we’ve got time. Even if it seems we’re passing ships at night. As if one door swinging open lets us simply say “goodbye.” May you always kiss me Goodnight. So don’t cry; as time keeps passing by and our little girl grows up in the blink of your brown eyes. She’ll be alright. At times it won’t feel right, we’ll just have to let go of the controls and let her fly. But we won’t let go of each other, we’ll be fine. Even if it seems we’re passing ships at night. As if one door swinging open lets us simply say “goodbye.” May you always kiss me goodnight...
